Overview
The multi-player quiz engine was first developed in 2002 for The History Channel in the UK. The channel was in the early days of developing its web strategy, trying to figure a way to use the new space to add value to its programming and for its advertisers. They had three objectives: get the Unique Visitors up; increase the time spent on the site; and find a clever, engaging way to cross-promote the channel's programmes.

We came up with a solution that's been described as Blockbusters meets Trivial Pursuit - a multiple choice encyclopaedic knowledge game that appealed both to history buffs and quiz night amateurs.
The game became popular right away, generating more visitors, page impressions and dwell time than any other part of the site. In fact, it was so popular, The History Channel US bought the engine as well and called it Time Lord. Since then the name has changed many times, but it's never been off the sites.
The engine is DB driven with a Flash interface. It can be played alone or against others. It cross-promotes programming very cleverly by pulling in video. It's easily re-skinned for new themes, and new programming (many other broadcasters have used the same engine for their brands); and with its long dwell time, it's one of most popular sponsorship properties on many sites. It also features on the broadcaster's international affiliate sites. With local content in local languages, it's become a popular site destinations on many of those sites too.
